First week of school is usually filled with different get-to-know each other activities. One of my favourite activities in grade 6 IAS class is a Straw Tower Group Challenge. This activity helps students to work and cooperate within groups, practice their strategy skills. Moreover, it’s fun, easy to prepare for, and students love it!
All you need is 100 straws per group of 2-3 students and a pair of scissors. Students task is to create a free-standing (no holding, no leaning) tower from the available straws. Give them 5-10 minutes to plan, 15-25 minutes to build, and around 5-10 minutes to clean.
